Swiss Farms is owned and managed by the Inderbitzin family, with Peter and his wife, Franziska, at the helm. They are proud third generation farmers that hail from Switzerland but have found their home in Australia.
Peter Inderbitzin's family originate from Switzerland, moving to New Zealand when he was just 4 years old. They established a successful dairy farming business there. Alois (Peter's father) heard that there were great opportunities in Australia and asked his two sons Tom and Peter to seek out farming land in Australia. In 1971, they purchased a dairy farm on the Atherton Tablelands and moved there soon after.
|Their first farm in Lakeland was bought with no irrigation and soon expanded to a second and third property, when the need for access to a sustainable water source became too hard to ignore. After 10 years expanding their property ownership and growing everything from broad acre crops to coffee beans, Martin Garate (their previous operations manager) raised the idea of growing bananas. Since then Peter and Franziska's business has continued to grow, with 3 of their 4 children soon to be involved on the farm and seven family members involved in the business. They have managed to create a legacy for their family that they hope will continue for generations to come.||

They wanted to grow their business further but with property prices increasing they were forced to seek out new farm land in a new location. When they took a drive up to Lakeland in 1985 and saw the rich red soil, big blocks and flat plains, they decided then and there that this was where their future would be.
