Our properties, Swiss Farms and Red Valley, are located 3 hours north of Cairns in an isolated pocket that provides some of the best growing conditions for bananas in Queensland.
It was Martin Garate, our operations manager that first told us that bananas would grow in Lakeland. Coming from a dairy farming background, and then purchasing an existing coffee plantation, we had never considered growing bananas. However, the rich red soil, sustainable water supply, frost-free winters, and tropical climate provided the perfect conditions for growing high quality bananas.
One of the main advantages of Lakeland is that, unlike other banana growing regions in Queensland, the drier inland weather conditions and the isolated geographic location allows us to experience less exposure to plant diseases.
